The purpose of the study: to find out the attitude of Kherson residents to the results of the campaign to rename the city’s streets.
Sample size: 401 respondents.
Field stage period: May 1 – 10, 2024.
Research client: Community Foundation of Kherson «Zakhyst».
Key Outputs
1.The majority of the survey participants (63% of the total number of respondents) were positive about the renaming. Those who left the city rated it more favorably (68%) compared to those who stayed in the city (58%).
2.For some residents of Kherson, the three waves of renaming in the city (a limited wave of renaming in 2012, decommunization in 2016, and decolonization in 2023-2024) are perceived as one.
3.The majority of respondents (72%) believe that their opinion was fully or partially taken into account during the renaming process, while only 14% said that it was not/
4.Nezalezhnosti Avenue (formerly Ushakov Avenue) topped two opposite ratings at the same time: the most successful renaming and the most unsuccessful. In the first case, it is mostly about getting rid of the old name, not about liking the new one.
5.One-third of Kherson residents (31%) believe that the renaming should continue while 43% think it should be stopped.
